Heidi Specker’s Re-prise is a reorchestration of Moï Wer’s draft design for the book Ci-Contre. It is a superimposed layering of time – an echo, a mirror of illusory images. After finishing his studies at the Bauhaus Dessau at the beginning of the s, the Lithuanian photographer Moshe Raviv Vorobeichic (Moï Wer) went to Paris, where he produced a maquette with black-and-white.

CONCRETE MY LOVE Sand and gravel mixed with cement and water. Several rods of steel. The list does not sound like a recipe for a family portrait, let alone an intimate one. And yet these are the humble ingredients behind Heidi Specker’s series Concrete (—).

In her photographs, Heidi Specker also isolates those views of alignment between nature and the built environment. Yet she is not a romantic landscape photographer, or even a modern flâneur. In series such as ‘Im Garten’ (In the Garden, –4) she adopts the perspective of an architectural restorer or a insurance adjuster as an antidote.

Heidi Specker “replied” in with details from architectural surfaces of Berlin architecture, with a liberation of recurring façade decor from its original architectonic coherence and mélange, thus setting these details free, making them different, useless, placeless, beautiful, but also unfamiliar.

In this artist's book, Heidi Specker collects building details, observations made in Bangkok where famous "Metal"-photographer Germaine Krull lived at the end of her life. Specker slips in some black-and-whites by Krull - pictures of Buddhist religious figures - and thus shares the authorship of this book with her.

Heidi Specker became known in the mids through the “Speckergruppen” or “Specker Groups” (/96) and other work series, which focused quite literally on concrete structures in an anticipation of the reappraisal of post-War architecture.

Specker is also one of the pioneers of digital photography. Heidi is an orphaned girl initially raised by her maternal aunt Dete in Maienfeld, Switzerland after the early deaths of her parents, Tobias and Adelheid (Dete's brother-in-law and sister). When some people ask Dete to come to the city and be their maid, Dete takes 5-year-old Heidi to her paternal grandfather's house, up the mountain from the Dörfli ('small village' in Swiss German).Author: Johanna Spyri.
